Who is CapeRock?
CapeRock.net
is the Internet part of CapeRock, LLC. CapeRock
is a design and technology consultancy. We are
an eclectic collection of artists, designers,
and programmers. The parent company of CapeRock
was incorporated in 1983 as a software development
firm and has been in business ever since. In 1996,
we added website design and Internet applications
to the list of services we offer.
We
are located in Auburn, Alabama. Auburn is located
about 110 southwest of Atlanta and about the same
distance southeast of Birmingham. Auburn is also
the home of Auburn
University. Auburn is an idyllic little college
town which hosts about 22,000 students. We could
have founded and located the company anywhere,
but after much thought, we couldn't think of any
place better to form a laid-back, yet very creative
and technical outfit than in a college town with
mild weather. (It really didn't have anything
to do with the fact that it was our alma mater
and that we already happened to live here. We
promise.)
So,
what is CapeRock?
Cape Rock is the name of a massive rock cliff
which protrudes (or used to) into the Mississippi
river near the present town of Cape
Girardeau, Missouri. As legend has it, it
was a trading post for fur traders and settlers
heading west in the early 1700's. One of the founders
of our company grew up in that town and everyone
thought it would be a cool name to adopt as our
moniker. (This will be valuable trivia when we
get to be the size of IBM).
More
trivia? Yea, well,
that same founder grew up next door to the Limbaugh
family (of the Rush
fame) on Sunset Blvd. in Cape Girardeau. We all
called him "Rusty" back then.
